Hello. I am writing to you concerning cemetery preservation issues in the state of Ohio. More specifically, what types of funding are available to those seeking to conduct cemetery / gravestone preservation and restoration work at cemeteries in Ohio where funds are needed for supplies, training, and hiring of professionals to lead volunteers and others with tasks such as cleaning, repairing and resetting gravestones. There is such a great need for this type of work at many of Ohio’s cemeteries; both active and inactive and abandoned cemeteries in both rural and city environments.
Too much history has already been lost at Ohio’s cemeteries, and more and more people are realizing this fact and seeking ways to restore what is possible and improve the condition of cemetery grounds and gravesites. Quite often levies are either not enough or not there at all and cemeteries are dependent upon private donations for their ongoing maintenance care. Sadly, little to no funds are left over for anything further than conducting basic mowing.
I look forward to hearing more about Heritage Ohio and how it can help those who are seeking help with improving Ohio’s cemeteries. Thank you.
