Preservation Pop Quiz…where is this courthouse?

Heritage Ohio’s Preservation Pop Quiz is back (thanks to Preservation in Pink for supplying a great blog idea!) One of my favorite buildings in Ohio is pictured below. It’s a county courthouse that looks much like it did when it was constructed in 1858.

Here’s an additional visual hint: the courthouse features nearly symmetrical wings. The north wing pictured below originally housed the Recorder’s and Treasurer’s offices. Can you guess the city and county where this iconic historic courthouse is located?

Answer Update: The above images show the Ross County Courthouse in historic downtown Chillicothe. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

  1. Our firm represents an owner who just purchased a registered historic housing project, the owner is looking to restore the project back to its original design and condition and has brought us on to assist in this, can you please let us know what is needed to apply for this program and if there is a local group we should be working with in Cleveland, Ohio?
    Sincerely,
    Michael

Thanks for the comment, Michael. If you are interested in pursuing state and/or federal rehabilitation tax credits then I would recommend getting in touch with the Ohio Historic Preservation Office here in Columbus at 614-298-2000.
A very capable local organization, the Cleveland Restoration Society, can also provide assistance. You can find them on the web at http://www.clevelandrestoration.org or call them at 216-426-1000. You can let both organizations know that Heritage Ohio referred you to them.
Best regards for your project’s success,
      Frank
