Ohio’s Top Preservation Opportunities is a program to recognize under-utilized buildings in our communities which could benefit from technical assistance.
Each year Heritage Ohio accepts nominations from around the state which are reviewed on a variety of criteria. Taken into consideration are geographic distribution; building variety type; historic significance; and the nature of technical assistance needs.
This year we are focusing on public-owned properties with historic integrity, i.e. town halls, the old jail and sheriff’s residence, courthouses, and schools. Only owners of these properties can submit nominations for these buildings, so if your community has a public building Top Opportunity, start a grassroots campaign to get it listed.
When a property is selected Heritage Ohio assembles a team of experts (developers, financiers, and preservation experts), and arranges a site visit to talk with the owner and local activists to help find solutions and a better future.
