The History of the Union Baptist Cemetery: Leaders, Legends, & Legacy – Cincinnati

Established in 1865, Union Baptist Cemetery is one of the most important African American cemeteries in this region. It is the resting place of Underground Railroad leaders, artists, inventors, athletes, musicians, Civil Rights leaders, and at least 150 veterans of the Civil War. We will hear stories of this place, and of some of the people buried here.

Did the popularity of the 2016 film, Hidden Figures make you wonder about other Black Mathematicians in your community? Learn more about the history of Black math students and professionals during Nearly 200 mathematicians that identify as Black have earned degrees from the Department of Mathematics at OSU, yet their stories and legacies remain untold.

Black History Month Celebration – Virtual

Organized by soprano, educator, and community organizer Margaret Barron and visual artist and educator Yusuf Lateef, this year’s annual Black History Month Celebration will be presented in a special online program. This year’s program features community leader Dr. Donald L. Perryman, artist Alice Grace in conversation with the TMA’s Associate Curator of American Art Lauren Applebaum, poet Ophelia Thompson with the Toledo School for the Arts creative writing team, and the photography of James Dickerson.

Shedding the Shame: How Social Issues Disproportionately Impact the Health and Wellness of African Americans – Virtual

As the American political climate has shifted in the last few years, social issues such as racism, poverty and violence have impacted the livelihood and future of the Black family, most notably youth.

In an effort to highlight and eradicate these systemic barriers, we will host an intergenerational discussion in partnership with The Cincinnati (OH) Chapter of The Links, Incorporated featuring medical experts and youth in the community on how to extend life expectancy against the backdrop of social issues to prevent illnesses such as chronic kidney failure, diabetes and high blood pressure.

Grant: The Civil Rights General & President – Cincinnati

Historian Christy S. Coleman examines Ulysses S. Grant’s role in liberating American’s enslaved people, his battle to abate the terror of the Ku Klux Klan and the influence of his upbringing in the abolitionist hotbed of Brown County, Ohio.

Exploring Black Stories – Hale Farm

Commemorate the histories and lives of Black residents and figures who have impacted the Northeast Ohio community, specifically through the 19th century. This event will feature living history programs as well as presentations amplifying Black stories. Guests will have opportunities to interact with community partners and explore their own individual and family stories.

The Tea Room – Columbus


The Tea Room is a contemporary version of the African American Tea Ceremony which began in the mid 19th century. Annually held on February 15, enslaved people were given the left over teas, food and china from Valentine’s Day celebrations. This tradition evolved into gatherings held at churches and later black owned tea houses. Designed to create an environment of fellowship and empowerment, the Tea Room will be a forum for participants to network and learn about the achievements of African Americans in Ohio.

A Critical Conversation About the History of Ownership in the Black Hair Care Industry – Virtual

The Black hair care industry has been in existence since the 1900s with the likes of Annie Turnbo Malone, Madam C. J. Walker, and Garrett Morgan. These entrepreneurs set the standard for successful Black owned hair care businesses. However, for more than 100 years that success has been continually threatened by non-Blacks profiting off of products they created catering to the Black community. Join Ladosha Wright, Goldie Jenkins, and Dr. Tameka Ellington discuss this phenomenon along with the life of Christina Jenkins, inventor of the hair weave and a hair care industry business woman in the 1950s.

Humor and heart are rooted in our families’ storytelling traditions. Culture, stories and folktales are shared by one of Ohio’s Affrilachian storytellers and authors, Lyn Ford.

Food for Freedom – Virtual

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown a widespread disparity of access to not only quality healthcare, but to quality food that negatively impacts outcomes for Black communities. The root of these issues run deep, and back centuries beginning with slavery and, later, a lack of opportunities based on racial discrimination. This meaningful discussion with change agents seeks to incite a greater vision of social and economic justice; improved nutrition and health; and community activism while addressing the disproportionate burden of social barriers to healthy foods. Panelists include:

  • Mona Jenkins, Founder of Queen Mother’s Market Cooperative
  • amaha sellassie, Founder of Gem City Market
  • Michaela Oldfield, Director of Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council

We will also explore the culinary history and culture of foodways within the Black experience with Andre L. Taylor, an oral historian at the College of William & Mary. A graduate of North Carolina A&T State University (BA in history) and NC State University (MA in public history), Andre has focused his research on foodways from the African diaspora and how recipes have been shared throughout families to preserve their cultural heritage. He also focuses on the origins of foods used in recipes from the African American community. A native of Philadelphia, Andre has conducted research in South Carolina examining how climate change and sea level rise impacts coastal communities of color who struggle to retain land and cultural heritage.

Hear local photographers Shellee Fisher, T. Graves, and James Reid discuss the changing dynamics of neighborhoods due to urban renewal. They’ll talk about how photography is one method for preserving the essential stories of Black communities.

  • Take a Hike – Cleveland Take a Hike Tour in Cleveland
    Take a Hike offers six (FREE!) guided walking tours of distinct neighborhoods in downtown Cleveland! Weekly tours explore the Gateway District, University Circle, Warehouse District, Civic Center, Playhouse Square neighborhood and Canal Basin Park in the Flats. Each tour lasts approximately one and a half hours in length, and features actors and actresses portraying historic figures from Cleveland’s past. Check the website for the full schedule of tours.
  • Kent Restaurant Week – Kent
    From slow-cooked barbecue and authentic Italian cuisine to fresh sushi and exquisite small plates, Kent eateries can satisfy a range of cravings. Enjoy special “prix fixe” menus offering a three-course meal for one set price at each place.
  • South Town Cruise-In – Medina
    Join Main Street Medina for a weekly cruise-in in Medina’s South Town, Tuesday evenings, May 21-September 24th from 4-8pm at 233 Lafayette Rd (the former Hawkins Market parking lot, soon to be the new home of Medina County Habitat for Humanity). See some of the best classic, collectible, rat rod, hot rod, and muscle cars in Northeast Ohio, and enjoy classic tunes from the 1950-70’s with DJ Bruce. The South Town Cruise-In is free and open to the public.

    Join Main Street Kent for the 13th annual Art & Wine Festival in downtown Kent! Enjoy Ohio wine, live music, local art, and creative food concepts from the area. Entry to the event is free. Attendees may participate in wine tasting for $20.
  • Kids Day of Safety & Play – Medina
    Head to the Square on Saturday, June 1st, for a full day of free, family fun, entertainment, games, and the incredible Safety Fair on Broadway Street. Enjoy face painting, balloon twisting, a book sale, summer reading kick-off, meet the Medinasaurus, and much more.
  • Troy Strawberry Festival – Troy

    It’s the second year for this manly event that’s all about cigars, wine and Vermilion in Bloom. Only $55, you get two hand-rolled cigars, a drink (beer or wine), heavy appetizers and other manly stuff. Hosted by the Wine Vault, which will be closed for this event, you won’t want to miss it.

  • Story Mob – Marietta
    Story Mobs are part of Marietta Main Street‘s Cash Mob Line-Up! Story Mobs are a little bit different than our normal Cash Mobs. Participants aren’t expected to shop, unless they want to! Instead, Story Mobbers will hear backstories about each participating business directly from the business owner. Mobbers will enjoy refreshments, live demos, sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes tours, and/or more thanks to each of our *surprise* participating locations! Each Story Mob event focuses on supporting local business in downtown Marietta. Once participants show up at the initial meeting location, clues will be provided to learn the surprise locations of the evening’s Story Mob event!

  • Ladies Night Out – Wooster
    The 12th Annual Ladies Night Out will be feature live music and for just $5 per person, receive a “passport” and goodie bag. The passports will detail each merchant and what “special” they will be offering for the night. Ladies get your passport stamped for a chance to win prizes! Downtown restaurants will also be offering specials for the night! So get your girlfriends together for a fun night out!

  • A Day of Enchantment – Cambridge
    Hear ye hear ye Cambridge Main Street is looking for a few good princesses, princes, pirates and fairies for A Day of Enchantment. Young ladies and gentlemen ages 3-9 are invited to spend the day with a variety of princesses, princes, a famous pirate or two and even fairies! From bounce houses to a magical carriage ride there is something for everyone during this popular event.
  • East Green Summer Concert Series: The Right Now – Tiffin
    Rescheduled concert from June 1st. Head to the Frost-Kalnow Amphitheater for a free concert with The Right Now! The Right Now’s pop-meets-soul sound is more than a vehicle for Stefanie Berecz’s captivating voice. The celebration of thoughtful, catchy songwriting and intricate arrangements evokes a subtle sophistication in the tradition of Quincy Jones’ 70s and 80s masterpieces. Since 2008 the band has toured much of the United States and released three acclaimed albums, racking up placements in television, national commercials, and the multi-million-selling video game Watch Dogs.

  • Main Street Family Fridays – Ravenna
    Main Street Ravenna and our friends from the Ravenna Parks and Recreation Department present Main Street Family Fridays featuring Movie’s on the Square. The whole family can visit unique downtown merchants and great restaurants between 5 and 9 p.m.! There will be fun activities, specials, entertainment and more before the movies start at dusk on the square. Bring your blanket!
  • Sculptures on the Square – Troy
    Sculptures on the Square features 22 life-sized sculptures created by internationally renowned artist, Seward Johnson. There is also one sculpture created by local artist, Shannon Timura, that will be on display. Troy Main Street also invites visitors to be “Be Part of the Art” with art-related activities and experiences throughout the exhibition period. June 14th will serve as the kick-off gala with onsite artists and a musical performance led by 50s and 60s variety group, The Buzz Ford Show featuring the American Kings.
  • Movie on the Square – Wooster
    Wooster is going Hollywood! And we have your ticket to a FREE, family-friendly, community event in wonderful Downtown Wooster. The movie SPIDER-MAN: Into the Spider-Verse (2018) will be featured on a 33-foot movie screen in the middle of the square. Bring a blanket, chairs & friends! Popcorn, along with other food and beverages will be available for purchase.

  • National Road Bike Show & Rib Fest – Cambridge
    Hot rods and Harleys, trikes and bikes will line Wheeling Ave during this annual event. Come out to see bikes, rat rods and more and grab a bite to eat at one of the many food trailers. Stay for the live bands and entertainment and enjoy a cold beer too!
  • Medina County Pizza Palooza – Medina
    Medina County Pizza Palooza showcases the best, local pie shops in Medina for a chance to win the 3′ tall Judges Choice and 3′ tall People’s Choice trophies for Best Pizza in Medina County. Buy a pizza passport tasting ticket for just $8, and be a judge! Pizza Palooza is also an important day where we, in partnership with United Way of Medina County and Feeding Medina County, get to showcase and highlight over 60 county non-profit and social service agencies, doing good work for the residents of our community.

  • East Green Summer Concert Series: Mark Randisi & The Motor City Horns – Tiffin
    Hear the classic sounds of Mark Randisi & The Motor City Horns in downtown Tiffin at the Frost-Kalnow Amphitheater. The Motor City Horns feature some of Detroit’s most versatile musicians. Individually, MCH members have worked with a variety of artists, bands, and orchestras, including Justin Timberlake, The Temptations, The Four Tops, The Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and Yo-Yo Ma. As a group, they have joined forces with Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band (2006–2007 “Face The Promise” Tour and 2011-2013 North American Tour, 2014-15 Ride Out Tour), Clarence Clemons and The Temple of Soul, Noel Gallagher, and Robert Randolph and The Family Band.

  • Summer on Winter Concert: Part I – Delaware
    Free, fun, outdoor summer concert series right here in our own historical Downtown Delaware! On W. Winter St. between Sandusky and Franklin. Part one of the series will feature the Hoodoo Soul Band, who are well known for their funk, soul, rhythm & blues in the Central Ohio area!

  • Revitalization Series Workshop: Design – Van Wert
    Join Heritage Ohio in Van Wert as we explore Design in Downtown. We have several speakers lined up to talk with you about local projects as well as hands-on opportunities to do some placemaking in Downtown Van Wert. We will have sessions on painting colorful crosswalks, opportunities to discover how temporary signage can increase foot traffic in your downtown as well as a chance to spruce up an existing pedestrian alleyway. Please come prepared by wearing comfortable shoes and clothes that you do not mind getting splashed with a little paint. Lunch will be on your own in downtown so you will have plenty of time to explore what Main Street Van Wert has to offer. We look forward to seeing you downtown!

  • Kent Torch Fest – Kent
    2019 is the 50th anniversary of the famed Cuyahoga River Fire that forever cemented the title “Burning River.” Kent will commemorate this anniversary with live music, food vendors, river themed activities and a ceremony celebrating the hard work of the Kent community in preserving the river for future generations.
  • Third Thursday: Staycation – Tiffin
    Join Main Street Tiffin for a Staycation in downtown tiffin! Think tropical, fruity and fun. Treat yourself to all that downtown has to offer and join us for trivia at 7pm!

    With the signature PRIDE RIDE kicking things off, Downtown Middletown has some BIG TIME fun planned for a night full of fun, acceptance and celebration. Everyone and everyBODY is welcome. (Glitter is optional, but amazing attitudes and kind spirits are mandatory).
  • June Concert & Cruise-In – Wooster
    Main Street Wooster presents a family oriented event featuring classic & street rod cars on display in Downtown Woo! Our concert and cruise-in will feature live music from The Usual Suspects and The Repeat Offenders. Classic cars & street rods are welcome!

  • Ohio Chautauqua Tour – Chardon
    Join Chardon as they host the touring Ohio Chautauqua! Full of live events! Actors, music, camps and history!
  • Downtown Mini Golf – Marietta
    Downtown businesses have created their very own custom putting greens for community members to putt their way around downtown. People of all ages can enjoy the putting greens by purchasing a $5 wrist band from the Main Street tent at the Armory from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.. Wrist bands are free for kids 12 and under accompanied by an adult. (Tickets are only sold day of at the Armory). All golfers will receive a score card to be used as they go around to each hole and putt, shop, eat, and have fun!
  • South Town Cleanup – Medina
    Main Street Medina, in partnership with the City of Medina, will host our first cleanup day in the South Town District, roughly bordered by Smith, Broadway, Lafayette, and Huntington. Snacks, trash bags, gloves and vests will be provided. Please bring rakes, brooms, and shovels, and a personal reusable water bottle.
  • Art on Main – Ravenna
    Visit downtown Ravenna for amazing art, as well as area food trucks and wine.

  • Pizza Palooza – Tiffin Pizza
    Bring the whole family to enjoy a taste of Tiffin and Seneca County! Attendees can purchase $1 tickets that can be redeemed for a slice of pizza from any vendor, snacks, soda, or water. Half of each ticket sold will go toward downtown revitalization. During the event, The Porter & Sayles Band will be playing live at the Frost-Kalnow Amphitheater.

2019 Quarterly Revitalization Series: Promotion

Join Heritage Ohio in Wadsworth on April 25th for the 2nd Revitalization Series Workshop of 2019. The focus of this workshop will be on promotions. Though Main Street programs do many of the critical tasks through design, economic vitality, and organization, the promotions committee is, in general, responsible for activating the downtown through events. Events are what everyone knows Main Streets do, it is one of the highly visible aspects of what we do and can sometimes be the only thing that many in our communities know about us.

Get ready for a day packed with tools to help you succeed in this area. Find out how partnerships can enhance your events, learn how to create unique experiences, tackle social media to improve marketing efforts, tell your story through video, and create the one thing Main Street can’t survive without, a sustainable volunteer culture. As always, you will also have the opportunity to explore this Main Street community and grab a bite to eat at a local establishment.

  • Chardon Groundhog Day Celebration – Chardon

    Join Chardon Tomorrow for a day of fun & furry festivities on Chardon Square! The day will kick off with a Pancake Breakfast with Geauga Faith Rescue Mission at 9 AM. Followed by a free Chardon Polka Band concert! Participating restaurants and retail shops will have groundhog related events throughout the day.

  • Ice-A-Fair – Vermilion

    The 11th Annual Main Street Vermilion Ice-A-Fair is a day-long winter event for the entire family filled with glistening sculptures, ice carving demos and more! Easily walkable or tour by Lolly the Trolley for $2 a rider or $5 for a family. You’ll find more than 30 shops, restaurants and pubs open to welcome visitors. You’re certain to bump into Jolly the Snowman and Pete the Penguin on the street as you enjoy your day in downtown Vermilion.

  • Ice-A-Fair Meltdown Party – Vermilion

    Just a short walk from the center of town and the site of Fire & Ice, a spectacular display that caps the day, the party starts at 7PM. For $25 a person, enjoy music, hors doeurves and a cash bar. Relax around the fireplace and a great view of the river and Lagoons.

  • Main Street Van Wert Chocolate Walk – Van Wert

    The evening of the event, “chocolate walkers” will begin at the MSVW office to pick up a special Chocolate Bag sponsored by Stephanie Dawn, a chocolate voucher from DeBrand Fine Chocolates, and a map of the downtown stops. Then relax and savor the evening while strolling at one’s leisure through the participating businesses downtown. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride up and down Main Street.

    The Main Street Delaware Chocolate Walk is a tasty experience you won’t want to miss. With your $20 ticket you will visit downtown businesses and receive a treat at each one. Each business thoughtfully prepares a chocolate treat for you to experience their business in a unique, yummy way.

  • Main Street Kent Chocolate Walk – Kent

    A wonderland of chocolate will take place in downtown Kent. Ticket holders will “check in” between 12PM and 4PM at the Destination Kent Visitor Centre (located at 201 E. Erie St.) to pick up their Chocolate Walk maps, “passes,” and bags to collect their chocolate treats. Then, at their leisure, guests can stop at over twenty participating businesses to gather a chocolate surprise while shopping, having lunch, coffee, and/or drinks along the way.

    Join Main Street Portsmouth for the Annual Ellen Vetter Chocolate Walk to collect sweet treats and check out our many wonderful shops and restaurants.

  • Beat the Winter Blues with Brews & Wine About Winter – Wellington

    Come enjoy tasting beer and wine with many local brews. We also have a special guest- the Lorain County Health Department who will be serving the non-alcoholic “Responsible Driver”, the winning drink from their zero-proof mix-off. Pre-Sale Tickets are $15 and available at Red Iron and Main Street Wellington. They are $20 at the door.     Downtown Tipp City’s Annual Founder’s Affair is going to be a roaring good time. This year’s event will be held on Thursday, February 21st from 6pm-8pm with a speakeasy theme. Gone are the days of prohibition but downtown will come together in the basement of the Tipp City Public Library to celebrate the history of downtown, accomplishments of this past year, and set a vision for the upcoming year for the organization.

  • Take a Hike – Cleveland

    Take a Hike offers six (FREE!) guided walking tours of distinct neighborhoods in downtown Cleveland! Weekly tours explore the Gateway District, University Circle, Warehouse District, Civic Center, Playhouse Square neighborhood and Canal Basin Park in the Flats. Each tour lasts approximately one and a half hours in length, and features actors and actresses portraying historic figures from Cleveland’s past. Check the website for the full schedule of tours.

    The Great Marietta Marketplace is a unique, mobile-curated market showcasing the products of local and regional vendors and small businesses. This outdoor marketplace is located just footsteps from downtown, providing visitors the opportunity to browse booths of art, quality handcrafts, vintage goods, and much more!

  • Medina Fest – Medina

    In celebration of the 200th birthday of the City of Medina, Main Street Medina will hold Medina Fest on Saturday, August 25th, from 9am to 4pm. The event will feature a full day of fun, food, music, and activities, celebrating all things Medina! The event is sponsored by PNC, and is admission free.

    Scheduled entertainment will feature Rick Gaudet (acoustic guitar), Jim Gill (guitar), Grady Miller (americana & blues), Swizzle Stick Band (motown/funk), and Danjo Orchestra (big band).

    A Made in Medina showcase bazaar will feature local businesses and artists promoting/selling products made in Medina.

  • Home Grown Tomato Fest – Tipp City

    Head downtown to Canal Lock Park for the 2nd Annual Home Grown Tomato Fest, where tomatoes are the center of attention and all activities are BYOT (bring your own tomato).     A fun event for dogs and the people who love them. Friendly dogs on a non-retractable leash are welcome!

    Join Main Street Portsmouth downtown on July 7, between noon and 5 p.m., as we close Second Street to welcome outside vendors and bring the brick and mortar businesses to the sidewalks, for a day of the sidewalk sales that used to fill our streets. The sisters have promised us “You Make Me Want to Shout”, “Change Gonna Come” and “Still the One”, but do not come with any preconceived ideas for what these Sisters of Thunder will accomplish on stage. Just know that you will be lifted to their level, on this summer night, in Troy, Ohio.

  • Fountain Park Summer Music Series – Van Wert

    Head to Fountain Park to hear 60s rock band, The Cyrkle. The Cyrkle was a short-lived American rock and roll band active in the mid-1960s. The group charted two Top 40 hits, “Red Rubber Ball,” and “Turn-Down Day”. In 1966, The Cyrkle was opening for the Beatles on their last U.S. tour. They are now back together and will help you re-live those happy days.

  • Knowing Your Home: Hands-On Window Repair Workshop – Lakewood

    Join LakewoodAlive and Lakewood Hardware for our hands-on window repair workshop. Repairing a window is not only energy efficient and environmentally friendly, but it also helps to keep the historic look and feel of your wonderfully old home. Rotted frames, deteriorated sashes and leaky frames can generally be fixed in window restoration — even a rotting window isn’t necessarily too far gone for restoration. Glenn Palmer will be leading the evening and working with class participants to check window sashes, identify parts of the window, learn simple window repairs such as sash repair, glazing, sash cord repair etc.

    Starting at noon, watch as the roads and walks along Main Street begin filling up with bright chalk drawings created by local artistic talent. This year, look for storybook characters and all sorts of “nods” to reading! Enjoy some family and kid-friendly interactive opportunities, too as you watch the streets transform.
    At 3PM, you’re invited to Victory Park for a free, community-wide picnic to celebrate 100 years of Ritter Public Library. Enjoy hot dogs and hamburgers freshly prepared by the Lions Club and cupcakes from Vermilion’s Small Town Sweets. The run will begin at 7:30pm under the arch on the Lester Lefton Esplanade, taking runners on a spellbinding loop though some of Kent State’s most magnificent places.   • Celebrate Portsmouth Dinner & Auction – Portsmouth

    Celebrate Portsmouth at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Center. We’re excited for an evening of friends and neighbors, celebrating downtown success over drinks and an update from Main Street staff and board. Dinner will be served at 7, and will feature a smoked brisket meal from the Scioto Ribber. Music will be performed live by Mr. Andy Russell. Throughout the evening, guests are invited to browse the silent auction and bid on items.

  • SIEDC Annual Meeting – Tiffin

    Join us for the Annual Meeting of the Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. You will have the opportunity to network with more than 300 attendees, hear the exciting results from 2017, and listen to plans for this coming year as we look to “Focus on the Future.”

  • First Friday: March for ART – Delaware

    Main Street Delaware‘s March First Friday event includes 31 local galleries exhibiting artwork from Delaware City Schools. The official ‘Gallery Opening’ will be held in participating locations on First Friday in March and the exhibit will remain up in the downtown for your perusal through the end of the month.  Come downtown to see what the young artists in our community have been creating!  

  • First Friday: Nonprofit Night – Marietta

    March’s First Friday is Nonprofit Night. Local nonprofits will either be paired with downtown businesses or setup space on the Armory lawn to showcase their mission, recruit volunteers, and highlight their impact in Marietta.

  • Music for the Cause – Marietta

    Music for the Cause is a quarterly event hosted by The Adelphia Music Hall to support local musicians and local nonprofits at the same time. This live show highlights the best musicians our area has to offer AND thanks to these local musicians, they’ve donated their time to support the mission of a local organization working hard to strengthen our community.
    March 2018’s Music for the Cause featured nonprofit is Marietta Main Street, a local organization dedicated solely to the revitalization of downtown Marietta. From downtown beautification to historic preservation, economic development, public art, marketing & promotions, and events, Main Street covers it all!

  • First Friday: Girl Scout Cookie Walk & Wine Pairing – Middletown

    Who doesn’t LOVE Girl Scout Cookies?! Come join us in historic downtown Middletown for a family-friendly Cookie Walk! After checking in at the beautiful Windamere, you will walk to different shops, eateries and establishments to get 8 different Girl Scout cookies. As an added bonus, there will be a “Cookie Scavenger Hunt”. Find the hidden cookies in Downtown businesses and redeem your passport back at the Windamere before you leave for a free box of Girl Scout Cookies (flavors vary) to take home!     This workshop, new to the KYH lineup, will focus on everything that you need to know about your fireplace. Our presenter will review how to ensure that your fireplace is working in a safe manner and will also highlight all of the parts of a fireplace and how they work. We will then cover how to maintain your fireplace, how often and how maintenance is performed for both gas and wood burning fireplaces. We will talk about converting or upgrading your fireplace. Finally, we will also highlight options that are available to homes that currently do not have a fireplace system and cover the steps and costs of what is it takes to install them.

    Add a visit to Ritter Public Library to experience Friends of Library Chocolate Festival from 10AM-1PM. Sample chocolate confections to your heart’s content for 50 cents a taste. Stop in at Main Street Vermilion throughout the day to warm up with refreshments and take a chance on an exciting array of raffle baskets.
    The day’s events end at 6PM with a towering display of Fire & Ice in the center of town at Exchange Park. Enjoy this beautiful mix of music, flames and ice that constantly shifts in shape and texture. Will the fire outlast the ice or will the ice quell the fire? You’ll be the first to find out!

  • Meltdown Party – Vermilion

    Following the Ice-A-Fair, join Main Street Vermilion for a “Meltdown” after party, 7PM at the Vermilion Boat Club, just a short walk from the center of Downtown. For $25 a person, enjoy music, hors doeurves and a cash bar. Relax around the fireplace and enjoy a great view of the river.

    Join us for the first ever Kent Mardi Crawl! Participants will get freebies at each stop — beads, masks and more! Visit as many bars as you wish throughout the night, and get your pass punched at each one (no purchase required); if you visit at least 5 of the 10 participating locations, drop your pass in the contest entry box at Water Street Tavern (132 S.   • Main Street Van Wert Chocolate Walk – Van Wert

    The Chocolate Walk will begin at the Main Street Van Wert office to pick up a special Chocolate Bag, a chocolate treat from DeBrand Fine Chocolates, and a map of the downtown stops. Then relax and savor the evening while strolling at one’s leisure through the participating businesses downtown. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride up and down Main Street.
    Following the Chocolate Walk, visit Van Wert Represents! at the Wassenberg Art Center . An opening party will be held serving homemade soups and freshly baked bread, and featuring live music along with our wine and chocolate pairings.

    You won’t want to miss Chardon’s first Annual Chocolate Walk! Shop, sample, and see all that Chardon has to offer! Hop from participating restaurants to businesses to shops for sweet treats and special offers. Ticket price includes a treat at each stop, your Chardon tote to carry them, and a special map/shopping pass for the day. Each participant also receives a raffle ticket for our prize drawings–with the opportunity for more tickets at every stop. Grab your friends and have some fun!

  • Chocolate Walk – Kent

    Enjoy collecting unique chocolate treats from over 20 of our downtown businesses!  Head out on the town to shop, eat, and collect your chocolate treats! All participants will be entered to win the grand prize: dinner for two at the Nineteen 10 restaurant and an overnight stay at the Kent State Hotel & Conference Center.

  • Downtown Portsmouth Chocolate Walk – Portsmouth

    Join us downtown for the Annual Ellen Vetter Chocolate Walk. The walk starts at Port City, where participants will receive their bags and walking maps, before enjoying a day of chocolaty treats and friends at around 30 stops.
