Back to Business – Millersburg

Farmhouse Frocks, a mother-daughter boutique and clothing line in Historic Downtown Millersburg, recently added a new product to their handmade, stylish clothing line — masks. So far, they have sold thousands of these, sending 20,000 masks to a New York City bank and being recognized on national news.

This is just one Main Street Millersburg business that managed to flourish during the shutdown. Other Millersburg businesses adapted their business practices to offer care packages, family meals and positive outlooks. With these practices and a country setting, Millersburg businesses have survived and thrived. 

Local Millersburg restaurants, such as Bags Sports Pub, have been offering curbside pickup and family meal packs. According to Main Street Millersburg director Judy Lamp, this has been a huge success and revealed an unfulfilled need.

“There are a lot of people wanting family meals from regular restaurants, not just Taco Bell or Pizza Hut,” she says. “They want good meals.”

Lamp also says that offering alcohol for carryout and delivery has been vital to the success and survival of some businesses. For example, Sunny Slope Winery offered wine bottles paired with local deli meats and cheese, lunch trays and wine slushies. Nine employees were hired to meet this demand, and Lamp hopes restaurants can continue to provide carry out alcohol.

With extra free time, many local businesses built and developed their online presences through working on websites or posting sales and news.

They have also used social media to support each other; Sunny Slope Winery recently encouraged people to visit Millersburg Brewing Company’s reopening on Facebook, and the brewing company in turn encouraged customers to visit Sunny Slope. This support and encouragement among the local businesses.

In addition to Sunny Slope Winery, Farmhouse Frocks had to recruit and hire more Amish families to sew masks. A new Millersburg business, Fallen Timbers, opened during quarantine and has been busy reworking floors and walls.

In Walnut Creek, Coblentz Chocolate Company created meal packages and delivered them to underprivileged local families, and Lamp herself has been delivering meal deals to hospital workers after their long shifts have finished.

Other merchants have created event packages, such as Mother’s Day and birthdays.

“That is something people have really grabbed a hold of, if they wanna send somebody a little gift,” she says. “I’ve just been thinking to myself ‘That is one less order that Amazon got.’”

As businesses reopened, Lamp says business owners implemented every order given: installing plexiglass, removing barstools, distancing tables, wearing masks, limiting people and wiping doorknobs. This compliance surprised Lamp, and she says business owners moved past every hiccup or breakdown.

“A lot of the things that (the businesses) can’t do is the things that made them special,” she says. “McKelvey’s is known to be packed, it’s loud and a Homes County favorite, and they’re not gonna be allowed to have that many people in there.”

An advantage of Millersburg businesses is its country setting. As one of the largest tourist destinations in Ohio, they were hit hard by the shutdown. But restaurants like McKelvey’s have more outdoor seating available than a city setting.

On the weekend of May 16, people were milling around downtown, sitting on propped chairs and tables outside, eating their lunches or ice cream cones in the sunny weather.

“Friday was packed,” Lamp says. “Being where we’re at — not in the city and out in the country — I think that’s gonna help with our comeback.”

Lamp has heard people say personal customer service has become vital, but she says Holmes County businesses have always offered it.

“Keep doing what you’ve always done, and what you’re good at,” she says. “With my merchants, that is that one-on-one, making (customers) feel great from the time they walk in the door.”

To recover, Lamp says she will return to how she built Historic Millersburg when she started as director eight years ago — focus on gaining local support for small businesses first, then tourism. She suggests that business owners remain positive.

“I once made a statement to someone that I’m from Holmes County,” she says. “We can make anything.”

    This tour will take in areas not covered before and provide an insight into the burial customs and artistic carvings used in Piqua. The symbols used in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries such as the lamb, the rose and the urn will be reviewed and explained. The cemetery is a place of traditions and innovations, of massive memorials and small remembrances and examples of old world markers and new world adaptions. Tour is led by local historian Jim Oda.

  • Take a Hike – Cleveland Take a Hike Tour in Cleveland
    Take a Hike offers six (FREE!) guided walking tours of distinct neighborhoods in downtown Cleveland! Weekly tours explore the Gateway District, University Circle, Warehouse District, Civic Center, Playhouse Square neighborhood and Canal Basin Park in the Flats. Each tour lasts approximately one and a half hours in length, and features actors and actresses portraying historic figures from Cleveland’s past. Check the website for the full schedule of tours.
  • South Town Cruise-In – Medina
    Join Main Street Medina for a weekly cruise-in in Medina’s South Town, Tuesday evenings, May 21-September 24th from 4-8pm at 233 Lafayette Rd (the former Hawkins Market parking lot, soon to be the new home of Medina County Habitat for Humanity). See some of the best classic, collectible, rat rod, hot rod, and muscle cars in Northeast Ohio, and enjoy classic tunes from the 1950-70’s with DJ Bruce. The South Town Cruise-In is free and open to the public.

  • East Green Summer Concert Series: New Day Collective – Tiffin
    The New Day is a collective of vertan Detroit musicians. A new project, the band formed in 2019 and is currently working on their first record. Stylistically the band is rooted in Jazz Fusion, Funk, Rock, Latin, R&B and Hip Hop with a Detroit edge. The band plays a mix of originals and select covers from bands like The Brecker Bros, and Snarky Puppy and The Crusaders.

  • Take a Hike – Cleveland

    Take a Hike offers six (FREE!) guided walking tours of distinct neighborhoods in downtown Cleveland! Weekly tours explore the Gateway District, University Circle, Warehouse District, Civic Center, Playhouse Square neighborhood and Canal Basin Park in the Flats. Each tour lasts approximately one and a half hours in length, and features actors and actresses portraying historic figures from Cleveland’s past. Check the website for the full schedule of tours.

  • Dickens Victorian Village – Cambridge

    Take a trip back in time and experience old world England as historic downtown Cambridge, Ohio, is charmingly transformed into a Dickens Victorian Village each holiday season. From November through mid January each year, visitors are invited to stroll amidst over 92 scenes of 166 lifelike figures representing classic scenes from Victorian society. While in Cambridge, experience the spectacular Guernsey County Courthouse Light Show.

  • North Pole Express – Lebanon

    The LM&M Railroad will have our station area decorated with lights for the Christmas season. Hot chocolate and cookies will be available on the platform while you wait for your train and are included with your ticket. Each passenger will receive one cookie that is peanut free, egg free, tree nut free, and dairy free. Every passenger will receive a FREE souvenir hot chocolate mug. Each child will receive a special “North Pole Express” souvenir train ticket.
    During the hour long journey Santa and his elves will make their way through the train to visit with each family. Every child will receive a bell from Santa’s sleigh. We encourage you to bring your own camera, pictures with Santa are allowed and encouraged. Balloon artists will also be on-board the train.

    This first Friday event will feature Delaware County nonprofit organizations. The not for profit organizations will provide giveaways, information, and opportunities for people to get more involved in community service.     Join Main Street Kent for the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Kent!   • First Friday: Future Pioneers – Marietta

    November’s First Friday is Future Pioneers. Downtown is set to welcome and encourage all of our local young entrepreneurs to come downtown. This month’s sponsor is Marietta College, who will be located on the Armory Square. In attendance will be the Entrepreneur Program from the College, as well as Student Athletes. Local downtown businesses will be host to several local young entrepreneurs, who own and manage their own business and invite other youth of the like into their shops!     The event is being called Portsmouth Today, and will be held every three months in the Scioto County Welcome Center. It will highlight positivity by focusing on a series of speakers who will update guests on their public events and projects, answer questions anyone may have, and hear input from those in attendance.     As part of Cambridge Main Street’s First Friday, United Way will feature a 5k or 1 mile fun run/walk with your furry friend. Participants are encouraged to wear a costume. The grand prize will have your pet riding in the Christmas parade as grand fur marshall!

  • First Friday: Breast Cancer Survivor/Representative Reception – Cambridge

    A reception honoring and remembering breast cancer survivors will be held. Wine and light appetizers will be served following a survivor photo on the steps of the courthouse. Survivors are also invited to participate in the Walk N Wag Pet Walk. Dogs from Pound Partners will be available to walk.

  • First Friday: Paws & Prevention – Delaware

    With your $10 registration, pets will receive a map of pet-friendly locations where they will receive a treat for their treat bag.   • Take a Hike – Cleveland

    Take a Hike offers six (FREE!) guided walking tours of distinct neighborhoods in downtown Cleveland! Weekly tours explore the Gateway District, University Circle, Warehouse District, Civic Center, Playhouse Square neighborhood and Canal Basin Park in the Flats. Each tour lasts approximately one and a half hours in length, and features actors and actresses portraying historic figures from Cleveland’s past. Check the website for the full schedule of tours.

May 4

  • First Friday: Putter Around the Downtown – Delaware

    For a fee of $5 per person, your family can go on a putt-putt adventure around our downtown businesses!  Stop by the Main Street Delaware tent (at Winter and Sandusky Streets) to get your wristbands and scorecards. Completed scorecards may be returned to the tent to be entered into a drawing to win a free round of golf for four at Mill Creek Golf Club in Ostrander. Putters and balls will be provided.

  • First Friday: Art Walk – Kent

    Join Main Street Kent for the First Friday Art Walk in downtown Kent! All participating galleries and businesses will stay open until at least 8pm on the first Friday of each month, for all to come enjoy and explore the artwork inside their businesses. Enjoy refreshments, enter in special drawings, view artist demonstrations and participate in activities throughout the downtown district.

  • First Friday: Marietta Derby – Marietta

    May’s First Friday is Marietta Derby. While the horses are racing in Kentucky, downtown will welcome races of our very own and encourage shoppers to don their biggest and boldest hats as they shop and dine downtown.
    Let’s go to the races! The Marietta Derby might be the most ridiculous, fun, AND community-minded event you’ve experienced in a long time!
    Join us to watch our competitors race against each other in full costume on the Armory lawn to raise money for their favorite local nonprofits. Come on down and place your “bets” by giving donations to your favorite “horse” or nonprofit!

  • First Friday: School Spirit – Middletown

    Come show your school pride this First Friday and sport your favorite school colors- pre-school, high school, college – Downtown Middletown is celebrating them all! Join us for fantastic, scholastic fun for all ages! Downtown will be joining forces to promote life-long learning and partnering with our friends at Middletown Community Foundation to bring you games, raffles and fun to kick off summer!

  • Chocolate Walk & Wine – Painesville

    Enjoy delicious samples of a variety of chocolates at participating merchants in downtown Painesville. Then visit the wineries at the Gage House (47 S, State St.) where you can purchase tickets and a glass to sample the flavorful wines chosen especially for this event.

  • First Friday: Downtown Tipp City Memories – Tipp City

    Join Downtown Tipp City Partnership on a self-guided walking tour of the buildings, where you can write and share your favorite memories of the past at each location. This event is free to the public and a joint effort, hosted by Downtown Tipp City and the Tippecanoe Historical Society.

  • First Friday: “May the Fourth” Be With You – Wadsworth

    With three astronauts connected to Wadsworth, space is a part of our city’s history. NASA Glenn exhibits will be featured at The Strand! You can also pre-register your kids for the Higher Orbits STEM Camp, taking place in Wadsworth in June. Stay tuned for more information!

  • Chardon Spirit Day – Chardon

    Join Chardon Tomorrow’s not-so-second Saturday event in May as they celebrate the spirit of Chardon. They’ll highlight the local school performers and teams, have community games and picnic-style food on the Square. Visit with your favorite teachers, community leaders, and city officials as they help host the day’s events.

  • Clean Sweep – Marietta

    Our annual downtown clean up, Clean Sweep, is scheduled for Saturday, May 5th from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. This day of volunteerism requires all hands on deck to support beautification efforts downtown, including Harmar Village. Volunteers will be asked to:
    * clean out and mulch our downtown garden beds
    * sweep our sidewalks
    * pick up trash and debris
    * help any downtown business owners in need of extra hands to clean windows or sweep entryways, etc.
    All volunteers are asked to meet at 8 a.m. at the Armory on Front Street to be assigned to projects in groups. Many hands make light work, and we need as much help as we can muster from local groups, residents, and visitors alike!

  • Main Street Sidewalk & Street Sale – Portsmouth

    Join Main Street Portsmouth downtown as we close Second Street to welcome outside vendors and bring the brick and mortar businesses to the sidewalks, for a day of the sidewalk sales that used to fill our streets. We will also have an inflatable for kids to enjoy while parents shop, as well as music on location.

  • Downtown Tipp City Sidewalk Sale – Tipp City

    Head downtown and see Tipp City’s merchants for sidewalk and tent sales during the annual Tipp-Monroe Community Service’s CITY WIDE Garage Sale Weekend Event!

  • Main Street Clean & Green – Van Wert

    Bring Your Own Broom and help keep Van Wert beautiful. Join Main Street Van Wert for our annual Spring Clean & Green. We work together to help clean store windows, sweep sidewalks and give back to the community.

  • Petunia Party – Marietta

    Have you ever wondered what it’s like to party at 6 a.m. with fellow volunteers and hang 280 flower baskets in downtown Marietta? Well, wonder no more! You’re invited to our Petunia Party! On Wednesday, May 9th, our Design Committee will be up and at ’em bright and early to meet our volunteers to hang this year’s flowers.
    With a full stock of ladders, trucks, and volunteers, this effort should take no more than 2 to 3 hours max. Many hands make light work – the more volunteers we have, the less time we will be out. If you have a friend and a ladder, please grab both and join us!

  • Knowing Your Home Workshop: Plaster Repair & Replacement – Lakewood

    Join LakewoodAlive, Sherwin-Williams and Linda Jancik of Wall to Wall Transformations for a workshop designed to educate folks on how to repair plaster walls and ceilings. Linda will review the anatomy of a wall, what plaster is made out of and the best ways to tackle a repair. This is a great workshop if you are tired of looking at the water damage from that old leaky toilet or tub or if you just want to be proactive and ready for what may come in your wonderful aging home!

  • Ladies Night Out – Medina

    The merchants and members of Main Street Medina and the Medina Historic District, with the support VCS Salon & Spa, Skin Care Solutions, Medina County Women’s Journal, and The Raspberry & The Rose, are pleased to announce Ladies Night Out. Over 30 locally owned and operated businesses in the Medina Historic District will be open extended hours, and will feature great shopping deals, tasty samplings of specialty food products, mini-makeovers, and lots of fun. The evening is geared toward the ladies of the community, but men are welcome to join in the fun. Final specials will be announced that evening, and ladies should stop at the Medina Convention & Visitors Bureau (32 Public Square) at 5pm on event nights to pick up a guide map of participating businesses and deals. Main Street Medina Facebook fans will get a sneak peek at the guide map and specials that morning. Swag bags will be given to the first 200 guests.

  • Antiques in the Alley & Classic Cruisers Car Show – Millersburg

    Do you love Antiques, recycled items, up-cycled items or unique metal lawn art? Antiques in the Alley encompasses the entire town of Millersburg including the Courthouse lawn, the alleys and sidewalks! For the 12th year in a row, in May and August, The Burg opens it’s doors and let’s everyone take the entire day to find the perfect item to take home with you! Lot’s of food can be found at our many pubs or even from our numerous food trucks located around town.

  • Gazebo Garden Walk – Wellington

    Our 20th Annual Gazebo Garden Walk will feature over 60 booths from crafts, antiques, jewelry, photography, and more.

    Learn about the historic and beautiful Old Stone Church, the Free Stamp, Cleveland’s unique public art piece, and Veterans Memorial Plaza with its striking fountain .  You’ll be amazed at both the grand architecture and the green spaces of the Civic Center as you stroll past the Board of Education Building, Public Auditorium, Cuyahoga County Courthouse, the Cleveland Convention Center, the Global Center for Health Innovation and much more.  Architect Daniel Burnham, Coach Paul Brown, the first coach of the Cleveland Browns, and/or Librarian Linda Eastman will be featured on this tour.

    This Knowing Your Home workshop will focus on the must-do home maintenance tasks that homeowners, especially owners of 80-100 year old homes, should make a priority to prevent major repair issues down the line.
    The workshop will also outline a yearly home maintenance schedule, helping to keep us on track with our maintenance chores as well as websites and apps that can be used to make our lives easier by storing all of our home repair information in one convenient place as our become more and more digital every day.

That’s our Downtown RunAround! Venture within an outdoor game zone that will cover 10 to 12 blocks. During the Downtown RunAround, each team will be equipped with a Smart Phone, a bag of materials and an Adventure Guidebook. Conquer the race by completing challenges to score points – all while helping raise money for Boys & Girls Club of Wooster. This is a mobile-friendly scavenger hunt on steroids!

  • The Great American Clean Up – Wellington

    Bring your family and friends and be a part of the “Great American Cleanup” sponsored by Keep America Beautiful and Keep Lorain County Beautiful. We will be sweeping, picking up garbage, and sprucing up many common downtown areas and alleyways.

Be sure to bring your camera for some stunning photo opportunities. Mayor Carl Stokes may share some background on his life and the Clean Water Act, which developed following the 1969 Cuyahoga River Fire.  Mary Kelley may also share stories of her husband, Alfred Kelley, the father of the Ohio & Erie Canal, during your tour.

  • Embracing Diversity Forum: Fostering Equity and Inclusion in Lakewood – Lakewood

    The benefits arising from societal diversity are well-documented. Research shows being exposed to people who are different from us broadens our horizons, enhances our creativity and even makes us happier. But how exactly can we succeed with cultivating a more diverse community in Lakewood? 
    Both the general public and members of the media are invited to attend this free forum as the community seeks to better understand the complexities surrounding the concepts of diversity, equity and inclusion as they pertain to race, ethnicity, gender and sexual orientation. The discussion will delve into best practices for identifying our own biases, serving as a change agent for achieving greater diversity and promoting the creation of an even more inclusive community.
    Moderator Tameka L. Taylor, Ph.D., who serves as President of Compass Consulting Services and previously spent 14 years occupying a leadership role at The Diversity Center of Northeast Ohio, will oversee a distinguished group of panelists for an informative discussion.

What’s Happening on Main Street – March 2018

March 1

  • Celebrate Portsmouth Dinner & Auction – Portsmouth

    Celebrate Portsmouth at the Southern Ohio Medical Center Friends Center. We’re excited for an evening of friends and neighbors, celebrating downtown success over drinks and an update from Main Street staff and board. Dinner will be served at 7, and will feature a smoked brisket meal from the Scioto Ribber. Music will be performed live by Mr. Andy Russell. Throughout the evening, guests are invited to browse the silent auction and bid on items.

  • SIEDC Annual Meeting – Tiffin

    Join us for the Annual Meeting of the Seneca Industrial and Economic Development Corp. You will have the opportunity to network with more than 300 attendees, hear the exciting results from 2017, and listen to plans for this coming year as we look to “Focus on the Future.”

  • First Friday: March for ART – Delaware

    Main Street Delaware‘s March First Friday event includes 31 local galleries exhibiting artwork from Delaware City Schools. The official ‘Gallery Opening’ will be held in participating locations on First Friday in March and the exhibit will remain up in the downtown for your perusal through the end of the month.  Come downtown to see what the young artists in our community have been creating!  

  • First Friday: Nonprofit Night – Marietta

    March’s First Friday is Nonprofit Night. Local nonprofits will either be paired with downtown businesses or setup space on the Armory lawn to showcase their mission, recruit volunteers, and highlight their impact in Marietta.

  • Music for the Cause – Marietta

    Music for the Cause is a quarterly event hosted by The Adelphia Music Hall to support local musicians and local nonprofits at the same time. This live show highlights the best musicians our area has to offer AND thanks to these local musicians, they’ve donated their time to support the mission of a local organization working hard to strengthen our community.
    March 2018’s Music for the Cause featured nonprofit is Marietta Main Street, a local organization dedicated solely to the revitalization of downtown Marietta. From downtown beautification to historic preservation, economic development, public art, marketing & promotions, and events, Main Street covers it all!

  • First Friday: Girl Scout Cookie Walk & Wine Pairing – Middletown

    Who doesn’t LOVE Girl Scout Cookies?! Come join us in historic downtown Middletown for a family-friendly Cookie Walk! After checking in at the beautiful Windamere, you will walk to different shops, eateries and establishments to get 8 different Girl Scout cookies. As an added bonus, there will be a “Cookie Scavenger Hunt”. Find the hidden cookies in Downtown businesses and redeem your passport back at the Windamere before you leave for a free box of Girl Scout Cookies (flavors vary) to take home! We can’t promise you will burn more calories than you consume, but it will be a fun-filled night for cookie lovers of all ages.
    For our 21 and older friends, each “Cookie Stop” will have a specially selected wine pairing available for purchase (not included in ticket price, sold separately at each location). Girl Scout cookie in one hand……paired wine in another…….does it get any better?!

  • St. Paddy’s Beer Crawl – Tipp City

    Let’s all kick off March with our 2nd annual St. Patrick’s Day Themed Beer Crawl around Downtown Tipp City! Come out wearing your green and crawl around sampling beers in shops, restaurants, and other establishments around town. Everything will be in walking distance.

  • First Friday: Downtown Mini Golf – Wadsworth

    Story Mobs are brand new to the 2018 Cash Mob event lineup. Each Story Mob focuses on telling the stories of 3 different businesses downtown. Participants aren’t expected to shop, unless they want to! Instead, Story Mobbers will hear backstories about each participating business directly from the business owner. Mobbers will enjoy refreshments, live demos, sneak peeks, behind-the-scenes tours, and more thanks to each of our *surprise* participating locations!

  • Knowing Your Home: Making a Sound Investment Workshop – Lakewood

    Join LakewoodAlive for the kick-off workshop of the 2018 Knowing Your Home season. We will be hosting a panel discussion focused on the process of larger home improvement projects.
    Our homes are 80 plus years old, well built, and just plain amazing structures. Sometimes the layout, design or asthetics just don’t fit with the needs of the house and family. Larger projects can be daunting and often times people don’t know where to start or they get stuck. Have no fear, this discussion will help shed light and perspective on larger home improvement projects, giving you the strength and encouragement to move forward.

    Main Street Portsmouth is proud to present the first ever Lucky Clover Contest! Shop downtown the week leading into the Seven Nations Celtic Club St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Celebration, between March 9 and March 17, for a chance to win $250 in gift cards to downtown restaurants.
    Pick up a lucky clover card while shopping and get it stamped at three downtown businesses, after a purchase of $5 or more, to enter the raffle.

  • 2018 Medina Beer Fest – Medina

    Join us for the most fun suds fest of the year! The Medina Beer Fest returns to Weymouth County Club for an evening of music, raffles, great food, a few surprises, and beer! Lots of beer! All classes are less than a half hour and cost $5 – please RSVP to make sure supplies are available for you!

  • Knowing Your Home: All About Fireplaces Workshop – Lakewood

    This workshop, new to the KYH lineup, will focus on everything that you need to know about your fireplace. Our presenter will review how to ensure that your fireplace is working in a safe manner and will also highlight all of the parts of a fireplace and how they work. We will then cover how to maintain your fireplace, how often and how maintenance is performed for both gas and wood burning fireplaces. We will talk about converting or upgrading your fireplace. Finally, we will also highlight options that are available to homes that currently do not have a fireplace system and cover the steps and costs of what is it takes to install them.

  • 1st Quarter Happy Hour – Mount Vernon

    Downtown Mount Vernon is growing, and we’d like to meet other talented enthusiasts at our networking happy hour! Join us for a casual meet and greet networking event to get to know our members and learn what sets downtown Mount Vernon apart.   • First Friday: Date Night – Delaware

    During the most romantic month of the year, celebrate a “Date Night” with Main Street Delaware for February’s First Friday! Downtown businesses will offer BOGO specials, two-for-one deals, pairings and more! Grab a friend, partner, spouse, child, or group and head to downtown Delaware for your date!

  • First Friday: Wine & Chocolate Walk – Marietta

    February’s First Friday is Wine & Chocolate Walk! Downtown businesses will feature exclusive specials and promotions uplifting the season of love for all visitors to downtown for this event.

  • First Friday: Live, Love, Middletown – Middletown

    Let’s spread some love this February First Friday during “LIVE, LOVE, MIDDLETOWN”! Wear your Middletown sweatshirt, hats and more and show your Middie Pride! Come celebrate our Downtown and enjoy dinner, drinks and shopping!  Then, be sure to meet up with us in the front room of Triple Moon Coffee Company, located at 1100 Central Ave, during First Friday to help us HEART BOMB downtown Middletown! We are going to show our downtown buildings just how much we LOVE them by making them an extra special Valentine.

  • Downtown Tipp City Chocolate Walk – Tipp City

    Tickets for Downtown Tipp City’s 3rd Annual Chocolate Walk are on sale now! Held annually on the First Friday in February, this is a fantastic date night or friends night out. You will receive around 15-20 different chocolate themed treats as you stop in each store in Downtown Tipp City.
    Come tour the town while getting rewarded!

  • First Friday: Soup-er Bowl – Wadsworth

    Stroll through downtown Wadsworth for delicious soup samples, food, music, art, games, activities, and fun!
    Event central is at The Strand, where you can get warm, grab a water, sit and enjoy live music provided by ORMACO, enjoy soup provided by The Village of St. Edward, paint a mug from Kathryn’s Craft Closet ($15-all materials and firing included), and more!
    After you’ve sampled some delicious soups, head to The Strand to vote for your favorite soup in downtown Wadsworth. One name will be drawn to win a $25 “Sub and Pizza Station” gift card! (Winner chosen and contacted after event). The Old First Merit Bank Building will have soup, a station to make your very own soup mix, and kid’s activities! Girl Scouts will be there to take cookie orders.

  • 10th Annual Main Street Vermilion Ice-A-Fair – Vermilion

    The 10th Annual Main Street Vermilion Ice-A-Fair is a day-long winter event for the entire family filled with glistening sculptures, ice carving demos and more! Easily walkable or tour by Lolly the Trolley for $2 a rider or $5 for a family. You’ll find more than 30 shops, restaurants and pubs open to welcome visitors. You’re certain to bump into Jolly the Snowman and Pete the Penguin on the street as you enjoy your day in downtown Vermilion.
    Add a visit to Ritter Public Library to experience Friends of Library Chocolate Festival from 10AM-1PM. Sample chocolate confections to your heart’s content for 50 cents a taste. Stop in at Main Street Vermilion throughout the day to warm up with refreshments and take a chance on an exciting array of raffle baskets.
    The day’s events end at 6PM with a towering display of Fire & Ice in the center of town at Exchange Park. Enjoy this beautiful mix of music, flames and ice that constantly shifts in shape and texture. Will the fire outlast the ice or will the ice quell the fire? You’ll be the first to find out!

  • Meltdown Party – Vermilion

    Following the Ice-A-Fair, join Main Street Vermilion for a “Meltdown” after party, 7PM at the Vermilion Boat Club, just a short walk from the center of Downtown. For $25 a person, enjoy music, hors doeurves and a cash bar. Relax around the fireplace and enjoy a great view of the river.

  • Mardi Crawl – Kent

    Join us for the first ever Kent Mardi Crawl! Participants will get freebies at each stop — beads, masks and more! Visit as many bars as you wish throughout the night, and get your pass punched at each one (no purchase required); if you visit at least 5 of the 10 participating locations, drop your pass in the contest entry box at Water Street Tavern (132 S. Water St.) for a chance to win one of our great prizes!

  • Main Street Van Wert Chocolate Walk – Van Wert

    The Chocolate Walk will begin at the Main Street Van Wert office to pick up a special Chocolate Bag, a chocolate treat from DeBrand Fine Chocolates, and a map of the downtown stops. Then relax and savor the evening while strolling at one’s leisure through the participating businesses downtown. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride up and down Main Street.
    Following the Chocolate Walk, visit Van Wert Represents! at the Wassenberg Art Center . An opening party will be held serving homemade soups and freshly baked bread, and featuring live music along with our wine and chocolate pairings.

  • Second Saturday Chocolate Walk – Chardon

    You won’t want to miss Chardon’s first Annual Chocolate Walk! Shop, sample, and see all that Chardon has to offer! Hop from participating restaurants to businesses to shops for sweet treats and special offers. Ticket price includes a treat at each stop, your Chardon tote to carry them, and a special map/shopping pass for the day. Each participant also receives a raffle ticket for our prize drawings–with the opportunity for more tickets at every stop. Grab your friends and have some fun!

  • Chocolate Walk – Kent

    Enjoy collecting unique chocolate treats from over 20 of our downtown businesses!  Head out on the town to shop, eat, and collect your chocolate treats! All participants will be entered to win the grand prize: dinner for two at the Nineteen 10 restaurant and an overnight stay at the Kent State Hotel & Conference Center.

  • Downtown Portsmouth Chocolate Walk – Portsmouth

    Join us downtown for the Annual Ellen Vetter Chocolate Walk. The walk starts at Port City, where participants will receive their bags and walking maps, before enjoying a day of chocolaty treats and friends at around 30 stops.
