History of Theater: This theater, modeled after the Rivoli in New York, opened in 1920 and is being renovated to support productions for the Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre production group. On July 23, 1959, an organizational group met and decided to become an independent theatre company. Greater Hamilton Civic Theatre is an outgrowth of the Hamilton Little Theatre which was sponsored by the YWCA. The first constitution was adapted July 26, 1959

Renovation Story:
An initial $100,000 state appropriation will be used to replace the theater’s leaking roof, and a second $100,000 appropriation was approved by the Commission in May 2006. The project to replace windows, restor terra cotta work, and make improvements to HVAC systems is nearing completion, and more than $94,000 was reimbursed during fiscal year 2008.
