History of Theater:
The Highland Theater began its life in 1936 and has featured premier movies and a diverse assortment of acts on both stage and screen over the years. The art deco style of its interior reflects the time when it was built and the new additions have kept with the theater’s original atmosphere.
Renovation Story:
Over a half million dollars of renovations took place in 2000 and 2001 at The Highland Theater, including a $100,000 lighting system and a $40,000 video projector. Fighting against a reputation born from decades of neglect, the Highland’s VR images show just how beautiful the theater has become.
Perhaps one of the most interesting new additions is the 110′ curved bar at the back of the theater. Unlike the mall movieplexes, where everyone is treated like a teenager, the Highland offers more independent style films in a mature atmosphere.
Cost of Rehabilitation:
$100,000 lighting system
$40,000 video projector
