Community Roles in Ecosystem Building Webinar

Wednesday, October 9th – 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

As a community leader, it can be so rewarding to contribute to the health of your region, but it can also be exhausting and frustrating sometimes to try to keep up with the endless demands and needs of community members. Together we will explore the dangerous myth of the “lone leader” and will discuss ways to crowdsource a leadership network in your community. Using the CO.STARTERS Community Roles In Ecosystem Building model, we will identify the diverse set of roles needed to more comprehensively address community issues.

Speaker

Enoch Elwell

Enoch frames and focuses the vision of CO.STARTERS. By better understanding the intersection of economic and community development, he helps the team align on doing the most strategic and effective work to transform communities through entrepreneurship.

He loves CO.STARTERS because we are helping people and communities thrive. His first business in middle school when he got together with his siblings and started selling homemade popsicles to the neighborhood kids. It took off and eventually put the local ice cream truck out of business! He used their profits to buy a go-cart, and learned a lot of lessons along the way…

Preparing a Successful Bid for State Capital Budget Dollars Webinar

Monday, September 16th – 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

Presented in partnership with Greater Ohio Policy Center & Ohio Facilities Construction Commission

With the passage of the state’s main operating budget, attention now turns to the state Capital Appropriations Budget, which will be introduced and passed in early 2020. The capital budget provides communities with the opportunity to seek state funding assistance for projects that involve the acquisition, construction, equipment, or renovation of buildings and other facilities that meet a defined “public purpose.” Communities – especially Ohio’s weaker market and smaller communities – must be prepared to “make their case” to secure funds for catalytic projects in their community.

This webinar will:
• Provide communities with a “101 on the Capital Budget”
• Highlight examples of small communities utilizing capital budget dollars for thoughtfully-planned projects, including their planning steps and process to secure funds
• Allow time for a Q&A for communities to ask questions

How Wi-Fi Can Revitalize Your Downtown Webinar

Wednesday, September 11th – 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm

More than just the provision of high speed Internet, an intelligent Wi-Fi network can provide a Main Street organization or interested city governments a platform for communication, branding, placemaking, and public engagement. A captive portal system provides direct communication to the community about events, businesses, and special promotions downtown. An intelligent Wi-Fi network can also collect valuable analytics on who comes downtown, how they travel, how long they stay, and how often they return. Main Street organizations can use this information to study the impact of events, provide information for business attraction and retention, and drive decision making, just for starters.
