Oh, the Places You’ll Go. But Only If You Can Find Your Way Webinar
Wednesday, July 10th – 1:00 pm-2:00 pm
How many times have you gone somewhere new or even somewhere you had been before and can’t quite figure out how to get to your destination? Whether it is an historic downtown, public parking, college campus, business park or even a neighborhood, these wayfinding issues occur daily in communities across Ohio. While residents are at an advantage, visitors sometimes feel like a fish out of water and may be less likely to return (and spend money) if they don’t have a positive experience finding their way around. PDG has worked with numerous communities on a five-to-six phased approach to wayfinding, with an end result of a welcoming, easy to access signage system. Join us for a webinar to review our process and look at two recent projects in Ohio, the Cities of Wadsworth and Parma Heights. Along with the process, we will be sharing final signage plans and guidelines, GIS mapping and Esri Story Map Tours, along with other key elements such as parking.

Heritage Ohio’s Annual Preservation Month Photo Contest | Urban Renewal
Preservation Month is nearly here and 2019 marks the 10th year of our Preservation Month Photo Contest. This year’s theme is Urban Renewal, but with a twist. While Urban Renewal may have once consisted of demoing whole blocks of city buildings, without any care or thought about the people in the buildings, let alone the character of the buildings, Urban Renewal today means the revitalization of cities, its people, and its heritage.
So, here’s your contest assignment: take a picture that captures your community’s best Urban Renewal efforts, whether an event image in a revitalized business district, a historic building once slated for demo that’s been saved and rehabbed, or even the underutilized block of buildings that will, once restored, again contribute to the renewal of the neighborhood.
Once you get that perfect image, submit your entry using our online submission form below, or post to Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #HOUrbanRenewal. Our Preservation Committee will choose finalists, and we’ll open the contest to online voting. As in years past, your online votes will determine the winner!
Here’s your chance at photographic fame and a spot on the cover of Revitalize Ohio! Good luck!
Dates to remember
- Entries accepted through Friday, May 10
- Online voting of finalists Monday, May 20-Wednesday, May 29

DIY Market Analysis: Free Data to Explore and Demonstrate Downtown Market Opportunities Webinar
Wednesday, March 6th – 1:00 pm-2:00 pm
Are you interested in demonstrating the economic opportunities of doing business in your downtown?
More and more data sources are available online today from both public and private organizations. The data can produce facts and figures of interest to investors, lenders and business operators. This webinar will explore a sample of data sources and how they can be used in both a comprehensive market analysis and in just-in-time research to answer questions that arise.
The discussion will look at data that can be utilized in the Downtown and Business District Market Analysis toolbox. This resource has been developed and updated by Extension in Wisconsin, Ohio, and Minnesota. The toolbox provides a structure for conducting community–led studies involving a local volunteer study group.
Webinar participants will leave with various sources that can provide new insights on study area and trade area dynamics.
Time will be reserved at the end for a “show and tell” of other data sites that we have missed. So if you have a valuable source of data useful in understanding your district, community, or trade area, drop it in the chat box during the webinar.
And yes, to amend the rivalry between Ohio and Wisconsin, Extension educators and downtown professionals will have each other’s company as we learn and share together.
